COLORADO FALL HOME SHOW RETURNS SEPT. 8-10, ANNOUNCES VECTRA BANK AS RETURNING TITLE SPONSOR

DENVER (August 1, 2017) – Colorado Garden Foundation announced today that Vectra Bank will once again serve as title sponsor of the annual Colorado Fall Home Show, taking place Sept. 8-10, 2017 at the Colorado Convention Center. The Colorado Fall Home Show features the latest in home design and décor trends with themed vignettes and theater sessions presented by the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) and, back by popular demand, the Sweet Times of the Rockies Cake Competition.

As always, proceeds generated from the Show will support the Colorado community through Colorado Garden Foundation’s grants and scholarships program. One hundred percent of every ticket sold at the Colorado Fall Home Show will be invested in college scholarships for education in the green and agricultural industry, and horticulture-related grant projects throughout Colorado.

“Vectra Bank is thrilled to once again support Colorado Garden Foundation as title sponsor of the Colorado Fall Home Show,” said Bruce Alexander, Vectra Bank President & CEO. “The Show serves as a great place to get ideas and advice for your home as we head into winter, but also directly supports the community through the horticultural grants and scholarships the Colorado Garden Foundation supports. We are proud to align ourselves with the Colorado Garden Foundation, its exceptional Show, and the efforts the organization makes to give back to our community here in Colorado.”

“Organizations like Vectra Bank are instrumental in allowing us to host an exceptional Show, and give even more to our community through our grants and scholarships program,” said Jim Fricke, executive director of Colorado Garden Foundation. “We are honored to have Vectra Bank on board with us once again, and look forward to another outstanding Colorado Fall Home Show.”

In 2017, Colorado Garden Foundation awarded $521,972 to 61 Colorado organizations for horticulture-related grants. In addition to awarding two four-year, full-ride scholarships to Colorado State University, major grants awarded in 2017 included a grant of $75,000 to Sewall Child Development Center, to help build a new sensory garden at the school, and a second major grant to Englewood Schools for the amount of $74,341, to fund a new greenhouse at the school.

Since the 1970s, Colorado Garden Foundation has awarded more than $7.8 million to more than 300 organizations in Colorado.

This year’s Colorado Fall Home Show provides a forum and marketplace for attendees to explore the latest trends and products to create an energy-efficient lifestyle and prepare for Colorado’s winter. The show is working with the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) for the seventh consecutive year and ASID designers will present three vignettes, presented by six different designers. Additionally, a demonstration stage will host sessions throughout the three-day show focusing on kitchen design, remodeling tips and accessorizing ideas. More than 250 exhibitors will fill the floor offering ideas and recommendations on home renovation, remodeling and sustainable living projects.

COLORADO GARDEN FOUNDATION AWARDS FULL-RIDE SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENT TO ATTEND COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY

COLORADO GARDEN FOUNDATION AWARDS FULL-RIDE SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENT TO ATTEND COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY

Additional Scholarships Awarded to CSU and Northeastern Junior College Students

DENVER (April 30, 2014) – Colorado Garden Foundation (CGF), a non-profit corporation that provides funds for horticultural-related grants and scholarships in Colorado, awarded Reece Melton of Dacono, Colo. a four-year, full-ride scholarship to Colorado State University (CSU) to study agricultural sciences. In addition to paid tuition, book fees, room and board for four years, he will receive a laptop and printer as part of the scholarship.

After being told he won the scholarship during a special CGF meeting, Melton said, “Thank you, this is a huge honor. Having the Colorado Garden Foundation scholarship will allow me to earn a degree in agricultural sciences and pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I intend to honor every portion of this opportunity to prepare myself to become an outstanding agriculture educator in the future.”

Through the application process, CGF learned that “Reece is one of the most hard-working, honest and motivated students. From his academics, extra-curricular activities and various other life commitments, he is unmatched,” said, Kaitlyn Gentert, Erie High School teacher. “He is not afraid of failure and knows how to learn from experience that do not go as planned. Reece takes all experience in life, academic, sports-related, agricultural work, and takes the time to reflect upon the meaning and lessons learned. I am thrilled to see him awarded this scholarship.”

Melton graduates from Erie High School in May. While maintaining a GPA of 4.1, he served as the president of the National Honor Society, is involved with the St. Vrain Valley Future Farmers of America Chapter and 4H, has logged 50 hours of community service in a school year that varied from flood relief efforts, works with elementary school aged children and ran canned food drives to aid local families.

Accompanied by his parents at the meeting, Melton’s mom said, “I’m not sure saying thank you covers it. We were committed to sending Reece to college but this scholarship will eliminate a huge financial pressure. We are so proud to see all his hard work has paid off – he has earned this scholarship.”

After receiving and reviewing numerous applications, the CGF board members traveled in April to meet with the top applicants in their hometowns throughout Colorado. The board interviewed the applicants, their families and teachers, and then toured the finalists’ high schools to determine financial needs, community service and future career endeavors before selecting the scholarship winner. The CGF full-ride scholarship is awarded from proceeds generated from the annual Colorado Garden & Home Show and annual Colorado Fall Home Show.

“We met with a lot of outstanding candidates, but Reece’s character and accomplishments were unequalled,” said Jim Fricke, executive director of the Colorado Garden Foundation. “It was an unanimous decision by our board to offer Reece this scholarship. During the interview process, one of his teachers described Reece as, ‘a leader with traits that shine in all he does from the classroom to the show ring to the basketball court. Reece is the student that volunteers for every opportunity, serves as a role model for those around him, and truly makes the organizations he is a part of, a better place for all,’ and we couldn’t agree more.”

CGF awarded additional college scholarships to Colorado students for the 2014-2015 school year including:

  • Jordan Karg, attending Northeastern Junior College this fall, was awarded a scholarship to help cover tuition, books and fees for this coming school year.
  • Thomas Zimmerman, will be starting his senior year at CSU this fall, was awarded a scholarship to cover his tuition, books and fees for the upcoming year.
  • Bethani Puzo, the graduate scholarship award winner, is studying at CSU. Her scholarship includes her tuition, books and fees for the upcoming year.

DENVER (April 28, 2014) – Colorado Garden Foundation (CGF), a non-profit that funds horticultural-specific projects and scholarships throughout Colorado, awarded a record-setting amount of $635,186, including matching grants of $27,962.50 provided by Bellco, to 54 Colorado organizations for horticulture-related grants.

“This year we are able to award more money in grants and scholarship than any other year in the history of the Colorado Garden Foundation and we are grateful for the opportunity,” said Jim Fricke, executive director of the Colorado Garden Foundation. “These grants result in a more beautiful community for all of Colorado to enjoy, but they would not be possible without the support we receive from our annual show attendees. All of the money we award comes from proceeds generated at the Colorado Garden & Home Show and the Colorado Fall Home Show – so we thank everyone who walks through the doors of our events for making this possible.”

Grants awarded include the 2014 Andrew Pierce Memorial Grant to Craig Hospital for $100,000 to create a green space between the hospital’s East and West buildings. According to Tom Carr, Director of Therapeutic Recreation of Craig Hospital, “The Colorado Garden Foundation’s generous funding will help us grow and expand our outdoor spaces into usable therapeutic environments that also provide places of refuge and relaxation for patients, families and the community surrounding Craig Hospital.”

Additional major grants were awarded to St. Anthony North Health for $75,000, also for a therapeutic healing garden and another $75,000 to Front Range Community College to complete a greenhouse on the campus. Other 2014 grants range from $500 to $25,000 to fund therapy and healing gardens, greenhouses, educational programs, flood restoration projects, butterfly gardens, fruit orchards, landscaping and garden irrigation, just to name a few.

Grants and scholarships are awarded from ticket proceeds generated at the CGF’s two annual shows: Colorado Garden & Home Show and Colorado Fall Home Show.
