COLORADO GARDEN FOUNDATION AWARDS $479,004 IN GRANTS
THROUGHOUT COLORADO IN 2016

Foundation donates to 54 organizations including major grants to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and Brent’s Place

DENVER (July 19, 2016) – Colorado Garden Foundation (CGF), a non-profit that funds horticultural-specific projects and scholarships throughout Colorado, awarded $479,004, including matching grants of $25,800 provided by Bellco, to 54 Colorado organizations for horticulture-related grants this year.

The two major grants awarded include a grant of $100,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver to support the creation of a youth development park in Commerce City, for use by club members and the community at large to get active outdoors through leisure and organized outdoor sports. “[The Colorado Garden Foundation’s] support enables us to provide a space for generations of young people to learn and grow outdoors,” said Brianne Rock, Volunteer Director for Boys & Girls Clubs and Metro Denver.

The second major grant was awarded to Brent’s Place, which helps children with cancer and their families, for $50,000, to help create an outdoor space for much needed healing and respite for patients and caregivers. The outdoor recreation space will include a sport court, garden, great lawn, patio/dining space, swings and play set, and play house.

Other 2016 grants range from $300 to $25,000 to fund community gardens, greenhouses, a horticulture therapy program, a healing garden, a children’s reading garden, landscape and trail improvements, a bird habitat and educational gardens and programs, just to name a few.

“We know that supporting Colorado’s outdoor spaces and horticulture programs promotes education and builds community, and are grateful for our annual Colorado Garden & Home Show and Colorado Fall Home Show attendees, as well as our sponsor Bellco for allowing us to support these worthy initiatives,” said Jim Fricke, executive director of the Colorado Garden Foundation. “The money we award comes directly from our show proceeds, and we thank everyone who attends our shows for their contribution to these incredible projects and programs.”

Since the 1970s, Colorado Garden Foundation has awarded more than $7.2 million to more than 300 organizations in Colorado. To learn about the grants and scholarship program, please visit ColoradoGardenFoundation.org.
